Programs

Every program at Badger CrossFit is functional fitness.

What is functional training?

Functional training uses movements that closely mimic the natural movements we do in every day life.

  • We squat every time we stand up from a chair or get up from the ground
  • We deadlift every time we pick something up from the ground such as groceries or boxes
  • We clean to get those objects to our arms or shoulders
  • We overhead press to get objects overhead, such as getting boxes to a top shelf

These functional movements use essential and universal motor recruitment patterns, which are the movements that have been passed down from the earliest generations. Basically, the stuff we were designed to do. Would you see a caveman do it? Then it’s probably functional! Ideally, functional movements should move your body or an external object from one point to another (the definition of doing work!).

Functional movements focus on actual movements (not muscles), which use multiple muscle groups together, such as the deadlift, push-ups, and squats. Non-functional movements, like curls, lateral raises, leg extensions and cable cross-overs have no place in our training. These exercises focus on working specific muscles, which rarely, if ever, occur in real life. Can you picture a caveman doing a cable cross-over?!

Functional training will benefit everyone. For the elderly, functional movements transfer into independent living. You squat to stand up. You pick up your grandchildren. These simple tasks become harder as we age. Functional fitness can completely reverse your current state of strength and fitness, allowing you to be independent longer. For the athlete, functional training means better coordination, agility, balance, speed and power. All of which will help your game.

CrossFit

Our world famous group classes are what it’s all about in CrossFit. At the core of Badger CrossFit training are our group classes known as WOD classes. We offer group classes every day, all led by our top coaches in a small-group setting. WOD classes consist of a warm-up, some skill work, a workout, and a cool down. Coming to three to five WOD classes a week will get you in the best shape of your life, across all aspects of fitness, from strength, power and endurance, to flexibility, agility, balance and coordination. WOD classes are open to all members who have successfully completed Elements.

Elements Course

Whether you’re a pro athlete, generally active, or haven’t worked out in a while, CrossFit is for you and the Elements Course is where to start.  The Elements Course is designed to bring you up to speed on the foundations of CrossFit; the form and technique of our movements in a group format, philosophy behind the CrossFit Program, and Nutrition Strategies we use to get incredible results. Your coach will create a progressive introduction to the intensity levels that are inherent in our group classes and assess your movements to create a personalized mobility program to improve your flexibility, performance, and safety.

CrossFit Football

We are dedicated to the principals of CrossFit and sports specialized training to develop powerful athletes.  CrossFit Football was designed by 12 year NFL veteran John Welbourn, in consortium with the world class coaches in the fields of strength and conditioning and CrossFit.

The program is designed to:

  • Maximize both physical and mental work capacity for practice and games
  • Develop strength and speed
  • Increase mobility, flexibility, and posture for top end performance and injury prevention
  • Teach techniques for NFL and High school combine tests (40, Pro Agility, L Drill, 225 lb rep max)
  • Optimize performance nutrition
  • Forge Powerful Athletes

We use organic functional movements performed at high intensity to simulate the demands placed on an athlete during a football game. Football is a game of seconds and inches. CrossFit Football knows the demands placed on players during the game and the distances they will have to travel. With this in mind, we can replicate the stresses and situations a player will face on the field. By combining high intensity movements with a comprehensive strength and speed program, the result is a training program that is unparalleled in the industry. -Courtesy of CrossFit Football HQ

Advanced Seminars

Every so often, we also offer Advanced Seminars, where domain experts (from inside the gym and out) provide high-level coaching on technical movements like the Olympic lifts, advanced gymnastics movements, or “Better Running” form. Unlike our other programs, we sometimes charge a small additional fee for these Advanced Seminars, so that we can pay our coaches for the ongoing specialty certifications and education that they pursue in specific areas.
