Sunday Spotlight: Blake Nold

This week we check in with a 5am regular, Blake Nold! — CrossFitting since: August 2017 (according to zen planner that amounts to 306 classes). — A little about yourself: I was lucky enough to grow up in the Sunshine State of Florida, where senior skip days were held at the beach. After high school, I earned a scholarship to play football at Assumption College where I went on to start 42 consecutive games and met my future wife. After college, I came to Wisconsin to attend Marquette Law School. I was able to land a job at Davis & Kuelthau located in downtown Milwaukee, where I am an attorney on the firm’s litigation team. The 4th of July is my favorite holiday. I love to waterski. And I am a firm believer that God wants every child to play at least one team sport-specifically football. — How did you get into CrossFit? Pretty simple, I was getting bored with my own workouts and missed working out with a group of people who appreciate the grind. My then fiancée (now wife) had been attending CrossFit classes in Worcester, MA for quite some time. Slowly she convinced me to give it a shot. I found a consistent group of people who like to get after it at the 5am class and I haven’t looked back since. — How has CrossFit changed you outside the gym? I wouldn’t say CrossFit has changed me, but after my football career it has filled that void of community. I have developed strong relationships that now extend beyond the walls at Badger. Whether it’s attending professional networking events, or grabbing a drink, CrossFit has a way of bringing people from all sorts of backgrounds together. — What makes Badger unique? For me, the atmosphere dictates the workout. Certain places have it, where you walk in and your mindset immediately changes. Badger and it’s people are special in that way. Badger has all the equipment and space you could want. But more importantly, every Badger athlete is there to improve themselves and pushes the people around them. — Advice for people just getting started: My favorite quote of all time comes from the late, great Pat Summitt: “You can’t always be the most talented person in the room. But you can be the most competitive.”
