My life revolved around athletics growing up – participating in judo, wrestling, football, baseball and track throughout grade school and high school. I enjoyed the camaraderie and competition of athletic events more than anything else, two traits of CrossFit that had me hooked the moment I walked into my first affiliate in Hawaii while stationed there with the United States Navy.
13 years later, I have had the pleasure to coach hundreds of athletes at six different affiliates across Hawaii, California, and Wisconsin, while also having the opportunity to compete on two CrossFit Regional teams in 2014 and 2015.
Before ever stepping into a CrossFit affiliate, I served 10 years in the United States Navy as an intelligence analyst, including deployments with the Army, Marines and National Security Agency (NSA) across the globe. Perhaps more than anything else in my life, these experiences working towards a common goal alongside sailors, soldiers and marines from diverse cultures and backgrounds, taught me the importance of committing yourself to the service of others.
This sense of service is something I have carried with me onto the CrossFit floor as a coach, committing my time and energy towards helping members accomplish the mission of reaching their most important health and fitness goals.
Whether it's been as an athlete, servicemember or my current role as a financial advisor, I have always been able to tie my own success back to the mentorship of others.
Over the past 13 years in CrossFit specifically, I have been lucky to know a number of incredible coaches who have helped me arrive at the fitness levels I set out to reach. Now every time I step in front of a CrossFit class, I want to make sure I do everything in my power – as a coach myself – to send the elevator back down for the next person.
