I recently finally got a handstand pushup- a skill that has eluded me for years!

My real-life application of CrossFit is when I have to fireman’s carry my golden retriever home when she gets too hot and plops down on a walk.

I grew up in a family where athletics was the norm. My family spent weekends away at soccer and volleyball tournaments, always looking forward to our next competition. I relished the teamwork, physicality and mental challenges sports provided. I started CrossFit in high school to support my soccer performance but didn’t truly appreciate the benefits until I became an Artillery officer in the Marine Corps, where physical performance is part of the job requirement. This position is where I first had to plan and lead workouts, ultimately sparking my interest in learning more about movement and becoming a teacher.

After leaving the military, I shifted my focus to holistic wellness to avoid the constant burnout I felt. I discovered the peace mindful movement like tai chi and yoga can provide. In May, I will attend Nursing School where I hope to continue learning, teaching, and sharing a holistic health approach for all.

My turning point came just after I left the military when years of disordered eating and training obsession started to catch up with me. I started working on shifting my mindset from perfection to just showing up, supporting community and doing what I could to stay healthy in mind and body.

I love coaching because I can connect with people, support all athletes seeking to better themselves (in any way!) and to continue learning, a lifelong passion. I learn from athletes and fellow coaches just as much, if not more, than any knowledge I can impart. The community showed up for me when I most needed help in my journey, and I just hope I can help someone else to pay it forward.
