What is BadgerBody?
BadgerBody utilizes what’s known as “functional bodybuilding” to achieve amazing results.

Bodybuilding and controlled methods of movement are used to help athletes fulfill their ‘function.’ This methodology is beneficial to athletes because it can enhance performance. NOTE: We are using the term bodybuilding in “building the body” back up to help athletes buffer themselves against injury, higher intensity workouts, and more!
In a perfect world, we would all be blessed with proper balance, muscle activation equal to both sides, and core stability. Few are naturally given this symbiotic structural balance.
CrossFit does help improve many areas of fitness but not all of them. Those with nagging injuries, muscular imbalances, and poor activation may need a training model that focuses more on muscular isolation.
This is our version of body building; functional building. Many of us hear the word bodybuilding and think aesthetics. You know, ripped abs, and front double bicep pose Arnold-style. While mainstream bodybuilding has its place for those wanting it, our version is designed with functionality in mind – to move in ways you are designed, buffer against injury and to compliment our functional offerings.
After nearly 10 years of working with CrossFit athletes, this program is designed to not only make you look amazing, but to injury-proof your body and rehab lagging areas.
The truth is, isolation work found in bodybuilding can build up lagging areas to balance the body, rehab injury and reduce chances of injury.
The body is a very interesting machine. When fixing your car, if your engine needs work, you would put more work in the engine, not just the car as a whole. Functional bodybuilding is no different
Who is this for?
This is for any athlete, but specifically for those who would like to be more balanced and stable, while building muscle and creating a more durable body.
It’s especially great for those with injuries!
Sometimes it’s not all about “thrusters and pull-ups” or higher-intensity each day and we just want to move in a non-intense way! This can lead to better overall performance in CrossFit classes and your fitness journey. It also can help avoid “burn-out,” which is a very real thing in anything you do.
It’s great for someone to looking to build up lagging areas (muscle size), but also build strength, functionally. As you gain strength, muscle size will increase (hypertrophy) typically.
How does BadgerBody work?
Once you purchase the program, you’re allowed to do it anytime the gym is open (ideally open gym times or outside of classes here at Badger CrossFit) so long as you stay off to the sides and use equipment that isn’t being used. You could also do it at your home gym, a “globo-gym” or the hotel, but it might be quite difficult as most places do not have the equipment we are wanting in this.
You will need access to the following:
- Bands (thera and longer ones)
- Weight plates
- Pull-up Bar
- Squat Rack
- And potentially more…
We release the workouts every week for 12 weeks. This is done via TrueCoach (formerly known as FitBot).
There are 5 workout days, 2 rest/recovery days. You can choose to do as many or little as you want while you’re doing CrossFit classes.
For those who are looking to give their body a bit of a reset on the intensity, it’s not uncommon to perform the 5 days in replacement of the strength work at our gym.
If you’re just looking to supplement your current routine, it can still be done. It will add on about 30-45 minutes to your classes, Unless of course you’re not staying on task. 😉
