WHAT IS CROSSFIT?
What is CrossFit? CrossFit is constantly-varied functional training done at high intensity. Its goal is to best prepare trainees for any physical contingency. Therefore, our programming is broad fitness and our specialty is not specializing.
Why Constantly Varied? Our bodies change to physical stress, but once our body adapts, physical changes decrease or stop. Hence, routine is the enemy. Our programming keeps the body guessing and always adapting.
What are functional movements? All of CrossFit’s workouts are based on core movements of life — found everywhere — and built naturally into our DNA. Function movements carry the largest loads the longest distances so they are ideal for maximizing the amount of work done in the shortest time (intensity).(1)
CrossFit is about promoting and maintaining healthy active lifestyles. Those lifestyles are dependent upon our ability to do simple tasks – pick up our kids, carry our groceries, sit up from a chair. We train for life and the movements therein.
What is High Intensity? High intensity (as defined by CrossFit) is how fast you get real work done. The more work you can do in less time increases power. The more power you can generate in less time, the greater your intensity.
Functional movements at maximum intensity (relative to the physical and psychological tolerances of the participant), lead to dramatic gains in fitness. Intensity is essential for results and is measurable as work/time.
What does “universally scalable” mean? Scalability allows us to modify activity to fit a person’s ability. We understand people join CrossFit to get in shape and will not be able to complete some workouts or movements. By modifying workouts and movements, everyone is able to maximize results regardless of ability.
HOW IT WORKS
Show up for the workout. That’s it. We provide professional coaching and training to guide you through warm-ups, strength training and the workout, all done in a group atmosphere. During the class, the coach will provide a personal-training eye and offer correction, challenge and encouragement to safely and efficiently build your overall fitness.
