This week we check in with a 6am member, Barb Fagan! — Crossfitting since: After 10 months in Function I made the leap to CrossFit in September 2017 – I called it my move to the Big Girl’s Gym. 😉 — A little about yourself: I would call myself a recovering endurance junkie that has found a bit more balance in my training. The past thirty years I have racked up over 75 marathons, 15 Ironman triathlons, and 10 ultra marathons – including a 100 miler! At times that is hard to believe when I am found half dead on the gym floor after a 12 minute WOD! For most of my life, although I knew better, I measured my fitness by my cardiovascular endurance and accomplishments. My eyes have truly been opened! I call Tosa my home where I am invited to share the house with my two year old 135 pound Great Dane – Lokai. She is a delight that warms my heart! — How did you get into CrossFit? I began my CrossFit journey after a summer of racing in my quest to qualify for both World Championships in 70.3 and 140.6 (for those not familiar with those numbers, they are Half and Full Ironman distances). I knew of Badger CrossFit by the kewl car logo I would see ALL over Tosa. I checked out the website and showed up on a Saturday morning in November…funny thing, it was a WOD that had over 2.5 mies of running! How kewl was that, I thought??!! That next Monday I was signed up for Function and the journey began. I quickly realized that my perception of fitness was about to be rocked. Although I could run forever…run fast…and do very well, I could barely lift the “training bar” over my head!! In fact, and to my surprise, one of my classmates asked me why I was in Function? I said, “Although I am fit, I am definitely not strong!” If I applied the same principals of my triathlon training to CrossFit, I knew I could get stronger! And I have! — How has CrossFit changed you outside the gym? The obvious thing that has changed is I am so much stronger in my day to day activities. I am smarter in everyday functional movements. Lifting a 40 pound bag of dog food for Lokai has now become a simple easy task. So many things have become easier…
