The feeling of being able to move your body in new ways and see it translate into the real world is incomparable. The camaraderie and encouragement from coaches and other members is inspiring. The incredible strength gains and increased cardiovascular capacity, weight loss, muscle gain, seem to be all you will ever need to stay motivated — in the beginning. But even with all of the great rewards that CrossFit brings, staying motivated (all of the time anyway) can be challenging for most people. In fact, it happens to just about everyone.So what do you do about it? Quit? Absolutely not. Here are some ideas to get you reinvigorated:Just go.Just get to the gym, even if you’re just there to do the motions. Not every session will be mind-blowing or amazing. Motion creates motion. But if you at least go, you’re likely to draw some strength and motivation during your workout from others. Even if you don’t get motivated during, you’re doing a lot more than staying home and sitting on the couch. Motivation enough.Shake your routine up!Are you doing your WODs on your own too much? Too much time spent thinking about what to do? Do you have analysis-paralysis? CrossFitters are great at thinking about things. But sometimes just feeding off the energy from CrossFitters can be infectious enough.Take your WODs to the park, to the lake, wherever! Just get moving and go somewhere different. A change in scenery will always reinvigorate the senses. Remember, there are usually large communities inside a CrossFit gym and many have similar interests as you — go out with the crew and hike, walk, run the trails, mountain bike, etc.Find a CrossFit buddyHaving someone hold you accountable for just showing up is sometimes the recharge that you need. Start asking others about helping each other. Having someone push you, yell, clap, call you out on ROM, etc may be what you need!Take a breakSeriously ask yourself this question, are you burnt out? If the answer is yes, then take a break. Let your mind, body, and spirit recharge. Sometimes you need to refocus and it’s ok. It’s NOT a time to be lazy. Most of the time, “taking a break” turns into failure of returning to your routine. On your break, you should still do SOMETHING; yoga, mobility, walking the dog, getting out in nature, get a massage, etc. Dig deep and have an honest conversation with yourself to find out what your body and mind really need. Talk to your coach as well. A good coach will understand and suggest things that will work well.There is also something to be said for resting completely. Every 4-6 months or so, take a full week off from anything.
