April Featured Female Athlete: Katy Burnett

[caption id="attachment_5512" align="alignnone" width="198"] Sorry, we couldn't find a CF pic of her![/caption]Name: Katy BurnettHometown: Oakville, ON, CanadaAge: 36CrossFitting since: June 2012Favorite WOD or movement: Wall ballLeast favorite WOD or movement: RUNNING, burpees, and ring dips (b/c I suck at them)... I know I need to get betterWhat is your fitness background? What were you doing before CrossFit? I was a healthy weight until I hit 30, then grad school and laziness caught up with me and I gained 80 lbs!!! I tried to run on and off, but to no avail b/c I was eating garbage. Night school is over, and I'm excited about getting my healthy body back. How did you get into CrossFit? A girl at work who is beautiful does CrossFit, so I thought I would try it if it would help me look even close to how good she looks! How have you changed since starting Badger CrossFit? I AM HAPPY!!! People at work noticed almost immediately. Also, I love exercising now- big change. Crossfit makes me WANT to eat clean b/c i know the impact it will have on my diet. I also love how social the workouts are... everyone is so patient, kind and encouraging. i wish I had found it sooner!!!What are your goals for 2013? Where are you in terms of achieving them?I want to lose the 80 lbs I gained and be able to weat clothes that I want to wear, not what I have to buy b/c it's the only thing in the store that fits me.What makes Badger CrossFit unique? I will NEVER use a traditional gym again. I love learning something new about myself in every workout. I also love how fun and close everyone is... like when I see people from my Elements class I just light up! I love how Tyler believes in me and believes I can lift more... he believes in my ability more than I do!! I also love how he is able to make you feel like you are getting personal attention in a class of ~15-20 people... you just know he is watching out for you to make sure you are doing the right thing and not going to hurt yourself.Any best BCF stories? I'm too new to have any. (this is an old entry - Tyler)What advice do you have for people just getting started? Do NOT be intimidated! I cannot climb a rope or do ring dips... YET....but you know what? I can do ring pull-ups and once I've lost some weight, I'll be better able to support myself. We really are just competing against ourselves and I can guarantee you- once you try Crossfit you will become addicted and want to do it as much as your body will let you.
