January's Featured Female Athlete: Krista Heller

Name: Krista HellerHometown: MinocquaAge: 26CrossFitting since: July 2010Favorite WOD or movement: The Seven is my favorite WOD and the squat clean is my favorite movementLeast favorite WOD or movement: SNATCH.What is your fitness background? What were you doing before CrossFit? No fitness background before crossfit! I hated anything to do working out. Never picked up a barbell or a weight and never ran except when I was forced to in gym class. How did you get into CrossFit? One of my husbands friends told us about it and we decided to try it out. I had no clue what it was but I knew I had to start doing something to stay in shape so figured it was worth a shot. I ended up loving it right away even though it was so difficult. It felt good to challenge myself and know that I was doing something that was going to make me healthier in the long run. How have you changed since starting Badger CrossFit? In so many ways!! I actaully work out now and look forward to it everyday! I am more muscular and can do things that I never dreamed I could - lifting heavy weights, pull ups, running 3 miles without walking, etc. I am more aware of my health in general now -not just working out but choosing the right foods. What are your goals for 2013? Where are you in terms of achieving them? No specific goals, just to get better overall. I would like to get some more PRs as well. In order to achieve this I will keep showing up and working hard. What makes Badger CrossFit unique? The people. We have awesome members who really care about one another and love to have a good time inside AND outside of the gym!Any best BCF stories? The Brewer game and trip to Door County this summer were a blast and all of our other social wods. Too many funny memories to list and some might not be appropriate to put on here ;)What advice do you have for people just getting started? Stick with it and you will see yourself improve. Focus on small gains and eventually the big gains will come. Don't ever get discouraged and keep in mind that while other people might be able to lift heavier than you or do a WOD faster they are probably at a very different level of fitness - whether it be better at something or working out longer. Also, dont always lift heavy when form is bad. Instead focus on that perfect form and then lifting heavier will be that much easier.
